After the Armor

Acrylic on canvas

The Tin Man holding a glossy red heart to his chest on a yellow ground.
After the Armor by Taylor McLendon. Acrylic on canvas. The Tin Man holding a glossy red heart to his chest on a yellow ground.

The Tin Man has spent a lifetime searching for a heart. Here, he holds one close, its glossy red surface bright against the weathered gray of his armor. His guarded expression carries the weight of what he has endured, but his hands are gentle around the thing he once believed he was missing.

Set against a golden-yellow ground, the red heart becomes impossible to overlook. It speaks to the tenderness that can survive behind defenses, and to the courage it takes to hold that tenderness where it can be seen. After the Armor asks what remains when the struggle quiets: perhaps not a heart newly found, but one that was there all along.
