I’m Taylor McLendon, an Alabama native, visual artist, and muralist based in Huntsville. Born and raised here and a graduate of the University of Alabama, I’ve called this state home all my life. Today, I work from Studio 255 at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment, creating paintings, mixed media works, installations, and public art.
Growing up in the South gives you plenty of stories. Some you’re proud to tell. Some you spend years trying to understand. My work draws from both, exploring family, memory, identity, and belonging. I’m interested in what we inherit, what we question, and what we choose to carry forward.
My work is included on the Alabama Public Art Trail, and Not All Sacrifice Is Named was acquired by the City of Gadsden for Noccalula Falls Park. My three story mural, Victory at Door 22, greets visitors at Lowe Mill in Huntsville. Through exhibitions, public art, and collaborations across the region, I bring those personal questions into spaces where other people can find their own connection.
There was a point in my life when everything changed. Time felt different. So did the things I was willing to put off. Art became central to how I wanted to spend my life, and I began building a studio practice with that understanding.
I want to make work that gives you a reason to stop and look a little longer. You may recognize something familiar. You may leave with a question you weren’t expecting. Either way, I hope something stays with you.
