What Remains After Holding

Acrylic on canvas

What Remains After Holding by Taylor McLendon. Acrylic on canvas. A clenched fist on a gold ground, an anatomical heart in deep plum pressed beneath it.

This work comes from all the hands that have touched my heart. The ones that steadied me, cared for me, helped put me back together, and eventually had to let go.

Some belong to people still beside me. Others belong to people I can only hold in memory. Their care continues to shape how I move through the world and how I care for others.

What Remains After Holding is my way of acknowledging those lasting impressions. I carry something of every person who has held me with love.
