You Can Still See Me

You Can Still See Me by Taylor McLendon. Mixed Media. There is a difference between being looked at and being seen.

In this portrait, bold passages of red push across a face rendered in black, gray, and white. Oversized sunglasses conceal the eyes, while restless lines and the lifted chin give the figure an unmistakable presence. The red becomes both a barrier and an announcement, covering parts of the image while demanding attention.

For me, this work lives in the tension between what we reveal, what we protect, and what other people decide they know about us. Even partly obscured, the figure refuses to disappear.
